commercial break exercises

You probably already know prolonged sitting can be detrimental. But did you know it can even take away from the benefits you gain from working out earlier in the day?

Extended sitting in front of the TV, behind a desk, or behind the wheel of your car can be harmful to your health.

The more we sit, the less energy we burn and the more our whole system tends to slow down.

No, we don’t have to move constantly, but studies conclude that getting up and moving every 30 minutes contributes to better health.

This is true even if you do it in a leisurely fashion, say for 3 to 5 minutes.

You can get up and walk around your house, stand instead of sitting in front of your computer, wash the dishes, or do other household chores like a bit of sweeping, vacuuming or folding laundry.

Studies show that people who monitor their sitting time do better warding off impending health problems like type II diabetes, obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure and with cancer.

The choices we make matter and it is up to us to continue to make healthy ones.

This week’s videos give you a few ideas of what you can do without even leaving the sofa or chair, perfect for during a TV commercial break or when you put down the computer for a few minutes.

Plus, I encourage you to come up with your own ideas such as setting a timer, walking to another room and back, or watching a segment of a TV program while marching or alternating foot kicks.

We possess a good deal of influence over our aging process with the decisions we make on a daily basis.

Is there no room for fun? Of course there is!

I like the idea of 80% discipline along with saving 20% for fun.

What’s the saying? “JUST DO IT!”
