25 minute senior workout

Lace up your shoes and let’s get moving with this 25 minute senior workout that includes cardio, core strength and more.

Daily exercise is a must for seniors who want to remain healthy as well as maintain their independence.

It’s like medicine for every part of the body.

In fact, if physicians would write a prescription for it, I bet we would see major improvements in wellbeing across the board for our age group.

How much aerobic activity do we need?

Recommendations are for 150 minutes a week, roughly 30 minutes 5 times a week.

That is a guideline, but depending on your fitness level, that can be modified according to your state of fitness.

It is something to shoot for but the important thing is to sit less and move more.

Start where you’re comfortable (even 10 minutes) and build upon that.

Set goals of adding a few minutes each week and you may be surprised that with consistency you will get there.

Making it a priority as you would any appointment and sticking to it is the key to success.

Just think if you didn’t take care of your oral health and what would happen to your teeth.

Well, the same deterioration is likely to happen to your body if you do not give it the maintenance it needs.

Don’t forget, a good fitness program should also include some weight lifting, balance practice, and stretching in order to meet our goals of aging well.

And what does aging well include?

  • Maintaining independence with mobility and flexibility
  • Keeping up our endurance throughout the day
  • Preventing falls
  • Avoiding mental decline
  • Boosting our mood to ward off depression

Not to mention the good it does for every part of your body, being vibrant and enjoying life and not just existing!

Exercise is especially critical for us seniors as the aging process quickens as the years roll by.
