charleston dance

When was the last time you did the Charleston? Try something new in this short and fun energy boost dance routine.

Why try something new?

Because people who seek out new activities tend to be happier, positive, alive, and healthier.

Doing the same thing day after day becomes monotonous and boring.

And your brain will thank you for it, too!

Trying something new and conquering it, even if you have to try and try again, gives you a feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction.

It enforces a can-do spirit which helps boost our self esteem and confidence.

It makes facing unknown circumstances and problem solving easier.

When we constantly do the same things on a daily basis, it becomes routine for our brain and requires less thinking and mental exercise so to speak.

A new challenge sparks our brain and allows for more flexible and expanded thinking.

All of this contributes to our mental wellness.

And I get it, maybe this Charleston routine isn’t for you.

I suggest trying something else new.

Here are a few easy ideas:

  • Try a new recipe or simply a new food
  • Walk a different route or go at a different time of day
  • Volunteer for a day
  • Go shopping at a store you’ve never been to before
  • Try knitting, Wordle, some brain games or revisit a hobby from the past
  • Reorganize a part of your home that really needs it
  • Plant some seeds and watch them grow or just go pick out a new plant to nurture

By now, you get the picture.

Push yourself to try one new thing a week.

There are so many more suggestions online if you look up senior activities or pastimes.

Think of it as playtime, a time to boost your mood, creativity, and add a little more life to your day.

The challenge is on!
